Visas & Passport Requirements

Passport Validity: At least 6 months beyond your travel dates.

Visa Pages: 2+ consecutive blank pages (3–4 for multi-country trips)

Visa Guidance:

  • Confirm requirements with the relevant consulates based on your nationality
  • Visas on arrival are typically payable in USD — bring small, clean notes
  • Online visa applications are available and recommended where possible

Zanzibar Mandatory Insurance

As of 1 October 2024, all visitors to Zanzibar must purchase official insurance.

  • Cost: USD 44 per person
  • Validity: Up to 92 days

Note: This is required in addition to any personal travel insurance.

Currency & Payment Advice

Currency: US dollars accepted widely (bring newer notes, post-2007) Cards: Visa and Mastercard are preferred; Amex may not be accepted ATMs: Available in major cities; cash is best for tipping and small purchases

Tip: Exchange a small amount (USD 200) into Tanzanian shillings for local use.

Common Language: English is widely spoken throughout Tanzania.
